update … Seeds of Change

A couple of months ago, we excitedly reported having Htwe (pronounced Too-E) as a new sewing helper. She is a gifted young seamstress and a quick study. Each week she tackles a new project helping the other ladies learn to make useful items….often from recycled fabrics.

This past week, lots of small scraps were given new life and these patchwork baby quilts will be either used by themselves or given to other poor people in need. Sister Euphrasia plans to give them a little pocket money for each quilt as an incentive for quality production.

Thanks to a very generous donation of cut-off fabrics from Island Curtains, the ladies will also have their hand in a small production of handbags similar to these you see below. We hope to have some available for purchase at the upcoming Melbourne Cup fundraising event in November.
